STAR student and Teacher named

Larissa Brown has been named STAR student at Lawrence County High School by the Mississippi Economic Council (MEC) M. B. Swayze Foundation.

Star Students are selected on the basis of academic excellence. Both American College Test scores and scholastic averages are compared to determine the school’s STAR Student, explained Vickie Powell of Jackson, Senior Vice President of Foundations. “The STAR program encourages and promotes academic achievement among Mississippi’s high school seniors,” she said. Each STAR Student is asked to designate a STAR Teacher, the teacher who has made the greatest contribution to the student’s scholastic achievement.

Larissa, an LCHS Senior, is the daughter of Virginia Brown and Larry Foster.  Upon graduation she plans to attend the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) where she will major in Pharmaceutical Sciences.  She has been accepted in to the Early Entry program at Ole Miss.   In addition to her academic excellence, Larissa is an LCHS cheerleader, is part of the marching band, and part of the Archery Team.  She also serves as Beta Club President and was voted by her classmates as Most Likely to Succeed.

Larissa has selected Mrs. Donna Rose as STAR Teacher.  Larissa selected Mrs. Rose as her STAR teacher because she is a very knowledgeable and effective teacher and a caring, generous person. Mrs. Rose is an upper level science teacher at LCHS.  She has 18 years teaching experience all at Lawrence County High School.  In addition, Mrs. Rose is a graduate of Lawrence County High School.

Congratulations to both Larissa and to Mrs. Rose.
